The Next Big Adventure

Journaling became an important task early on in work and play. Last year I began to go through the journals and tablets to retrieve the poetry and prose that had been written over decades. The first retrieval resulted in over 300 pieces of writing. The decision to share them publicly meant sorting through them and organizing the themes.

The first result is called “Ah, Where the Light Shines Through.” It is a collection of poems and prose detailing the transcendence that can occur when you connect with nature. One of my granddaughters, Camille Stephens, drew a picture to go with a poem about a gap between the leaves of a tree. She showed me the hole she had made and said, “this is where the light shines through.” So the title of this book was born.

The second book is called “The Most Exquisite Adventure.” This collection of poems and prose demonstrate key moments in a life where you strive to find meaning and passage. It is a spiritual journey that erupts out of the miraculous but simple act of being born. It travels to the moment of reclaiming life after having a near death experience and a musing about the great mystery of the end of life.

There is a third book in the making. It is tentatively titled “Memories of Africa — Coming Home.” There have been thirteen journeys into Africa beginning in 1985. Some are work-related trips. Others in more recent years have been our own explorations. This book will include more sketches by granddaughter Camille.

All of these are being distributed by Amazon or available through DragonflyLLC.
